One of favorite shows of all time just concluded and we couldn’t have been more bummed about it. The show that revolved around lives of 4 girls in New York successfully brought to spot light some of the issues real woman face. And what’s more, spanning over six seasons, we can def say we grew up with it. If you are a 20 something and you still haven’t seen this show, go watch it now! Trust us when we say you are missing out on some brilliancy.
To convince you more, here are 5 reasons why we love it so much and recommend it highly.
The sheer brilliance of Lena Dunham who has written the show and is also starring in it has us asking for more. She’s real, she’s witty and she’s us! Her character Hannah is struggling just like any of us to be an adult. We see her loving her body and showing off her body with the curves et al throughout the show and telling the world, “Girls, it is okay to have imperfect bodies.”
It is real and relatable
Remember, when we all first saw “Sex and the city” we wanted to be a Samantha or a Carrie but it is time move aside the SATC love and enjoy “Girls.” Girls is real and it is relatable. The fights, the friendships, the relationships, the drama and the sex, it is something we have all experienced at some point or the other. The characters Hannah, Marnie, Jessa and Shoshanna behave like us or maybe someone we know. Girls makes us part of their little world unlike SATC where it was a world we dreamed of.
The show understands us, millennials
The whole vibe of the show is millennial. The issues and the dialogues of the show are stereotypical millennials. We are all self-righteous and we end up worrying about things that are really not so important. We take decisions too quickly and we don’t understand the logic of investing money. The show along with us embraces the little selfish habits that we have.
The friendship between the four friends is real. The conversations, their fights, and things they laugh about and the confusion they experience, it is all of us right there inside that screen. The whole ordeal of these four girls living in a big bad city and trying to figure themselves out, dealing with life, we know it’s difficult and we feel that difficulty along with them. Along their journey, we learn how it is okay to be just us.
Deal with Taboos
The show is unapologetic! It brings in forefront all the taboo topics that we tend to steer clear from. Not many shows that we watch are okay with discussing these controversial topics. But, in Girls you see them dealing with abortion, STD, OCD, drug addiction and what not! All this makes us realize that there is darkness in the real world and we have to deal with because that is the harsh reality.
Go, indulge in the world of “Girls” and we know you will love them as much as we do, you will seek to know them more and be a part of them. Go watch it, binge on it already because your life is going to change.
